More damning evidence against Wal-Mart

Here is a link to a story last week concerning Wal-Mart's attempt to reclaim over $400K in insurance payouts from a Missouri woman who suffered a brain damage in a car wreck.

Thanks to Erynn for the link and if you see any stories like this, post em in the comments or email them to me! I'll post 'em on the frontpage!

FOLLOW-UP:
Apparently, Wal-Mart didn't like all the bad press they were getting over this story and have decided to rescind their claim on the money! I am very surprised, honestly. Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope that this fucked up corporation can turn things around...

From the article -
"Occasionally, others help us step back and look at a situation in a different way. This is one of those times," Wal-Mart Executive Vice President Pat Curran said in a letter. "We have all been moved by Ms. Shank's extraordinary situation."

I must say this is a very sad story that I have personally been following quite closely. If there ever was a good reason to damn Wal-Mart I must say this is a great one. On the bright side hopefully all of this negative publicity that they have received will have an affect. At the very least I pray that this poor woman will benefit in some way from the attention that this story has received. Obviously this has probably at least began to open the eyes of the hordes of the American public to the policies and practices of the industries Zeus. -CAPTAINSYCAMORE-

I think you should now change the title of your post for this story since Wal-Mart decided not to collect the money. This was money that a court said they had full right and they let this woman out of her contract because of her circumstances even though they in no way had to. I know you made a small note in a follow-up but this story should actually be about the approximately 400,000 that Wal-mart is now essentially giving this family. -Jamie-

But you notice that Wal-Mart only decided to withdraw their claim on the money AFTER this woman was splashed all across the newspapers and T.V.

Wal-Mart isn't doubling back on their claim because they care about this woman. They're doing it to avoid negative publicity. Do you honestly think they would have revised their actions if Anderson Cooper hadn't made a special effort to point out the immorality of it?

Yes, Wal-Mart had a legal right to claim the money. And they sure as hell were going to claim it until the story blew up. This company is looking out for #1 (their profits and stockholders), not the well-being of this woman. I stand by my title.

it doesn't matter to this family why they are getting the money back, i am sure they are just happy to have it. These people should praise wal-mart for giving them the money regardless of why. You shouldn't let your hatred skew things
